Background and objectives The power supply to attend the electricity public demand in the Solomon Islands is achieved almost by diesel power plants. Fuel costs from the diesel power plants have deteriorated the financial situation of Solomon Island Electricity Authority (SIEA).
Solomon Islands copra, palm oil and cocoa production and export by annual basis and destination from 2006 - 2016. Data sourced from the Commodities Export Marketing Authority (CEMA) in Honiara. Dataset captures the volume production (Megatonnes) of these 3 products quarterly & annually and destination of export.
The data set provides a summary of Solomon Islands fuel imports (Diesel, Gasoline, Jet Fuel & Aviation Kerosene, Household kerosene, Liquid Propane Gas (LPG), 2 stroke mixed oil). Fuel Imports data provided are measured in volumes (ltr) and value (SBD). The data also includes number of vehicles imported and its total value (SBD).

The study assesses the potential and economic feasibility of LPG, LNG or CNG to meet medium term energy needs in PICTs. It considers the end-use applications of power generation, process heating, maritime transport, land transport, cooking and water heating. The existing fuels considered for substitution include heavy fuel oil (HFO), diesel, gasoline, kerosene and biomass.
International aviation fuel is excluded because gas does not offer a technologically viable alternative to aviation fuel at this stage.

Year 2 started on a positive note with the signing of the Finance Agreement between USP and SPC and the full recruitment of all project staff in August, 2015.
