TONGA’S unwavering commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goal’s agenda remains steadfast.

The Legislative Assembly of Tonga continues to uphold SDG Goal 7 for affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy as a key catalyst to sustain economic growth.

The Speaker of Parliament Lord Fakafanua revealed this during his address at the 2nd World Parliamentary Forum on Sustainable Development in Indonesia on Wednesday September 12th.


TONGA 14th September, 2018 - His Majesty King Tupou VI marked the beginning of the work on Tonga’s largest wind farm project worth over 40 million pa’anga in a ground breaking ceremony this morning at Niutoua Village.

Dubbed as the 1.3 MW Wind Power System, the project is part of Japan’s grant aid to Tonga. The new system once completed is expected to cover approximately 8 percent of Tonga’s electricity supply.

Solomon Is 16th Jul 2018 - The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors has approved a $19.95 million project for the electricity access and renewable energy expansion for Solomon Islands.

The project will support the Solomon Islands’ government to boost renewable energy generation and increase access to grid-supplied electricity, while reducing reliance on expensive, imported fossil fuels.
