One of the biggest villages in Vanuatu, Port Olry, on the island of Santo has attained another level in its development.

This is due to access to electricity in 1998. Port Olry was the first village in Vanuatu to benefit from the financial assistance of the European Union (EU) in the first ever biofuel project. With its large coconut plantation, Port Olry managed to supply daily copra to its biofuel station.


More than 1,000 visitors comprising of students, parliamentarians, church leaders, district and town officers and the general public visited the energy sector booth during Tonga’s Finance Week and learnt about Tonga’s energy sector and the Pacific Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (PCREEE).


The Methodist Church of Samoa has launched a biogas project at Faleula as it moves to shift its congregation towards sustainable energy sources.

The official launching on Monday was attended by the Methodist Church President and Faletua Reverend Faulalo Leti, high chiefs and church ministers with their representatives [usufono], who also gathered at Faleula for the Methodist Church’s 2021 annual conference [koneferenisi aoao].

Various experts of the Global Network of Regional Sustainable Energy Centres (GN-SEC) are joining the sessions and side events of the Vienna Energy Forum (VEF), which will take place from 5 to 7 July 2021 in virtual form.

The event is guided by the motto, "Where Action Meets Ambition," and identifies action-oriented steps required to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, forging an inclusive pathway that leaves no one behind and achieving net zero emissions by 2050.


The Secretary of Samoa’s National Energy Coordination Committee and Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Finance,  Leasiosiofaásisina Oscar Malielegaoi,  opened Samoa’s Sustainable Energy Awareness Programme at the TATTE Conference Room, Apia on 24th June 2021.
