A partnership between the Department of Energy (DoE) and the Pacific Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (PCREEE) continues to address the lack of technical persons in Vanuatu with the skills to design, install, operate, and troubleshoot rural, off-grid RE systems.

Following a previous training in Kole on East coast of Santo early this year, a similar training was conducted in Port Vila from September 7 — 11, 2021. A total of 19 trainees from Loh, Hiu and Toga in Torres groups, Pele Island offshore of Efate and Emae island attended the weeklong training.


Supporting the recent Forum Leaders’ decision that COVID-19 must not delay global climate action but should promote recovery investments that are climate-smart and in line with a low emissions development pathway, the first ever Sustainable Energy Investment Forum (SEIF) in Vanuatu took place on 2nd of September 2021 at The Melanesian Hotel.

The GN-SEC and UNIDO’s Industrial Energy Accelerator launched the partnership „Regional Capacities for Industrial Energy Efficiency”. The Accelerator is drawing on its collective wealth of experience to produce a series of energy efficiency knowledge kits. These starter kits cover five key energy efficiency solutions: Energy Management Systems; Efficiency Solutions for Motor-Driven Systems; Industrial Heat; Industrial Cooling; as well as Energy Metrics and Performance Indicators.

More than 40 participants comprising of electricians, contractors, students and technical instructors gathered at the National Reserve Bank conference room for a joint training on sustainable energy business start ups and mentoring.


One of the biggest villages in Vanuatu, Port Olry, on the island of Santo has attained another level in its development.

This is due to access to electricity in 1998. Port Olry was the first village in Vanuatu to benefit from the financial assistance of the European Union (EU) in the first ever biofuel project. With its large coconut plantation, Port Olry managed to supply daily copra to its biofuel station.
