Investments in IDA Countries: Private Participation in Infrastructure (PPI) 2013 - 2017

This note analyzes trends in investment commitments in infrastructure projects with private sector participation (hereafter referred to as PPI investments) in countries eligible for support from the International Development Association (hereafter—called IDA countries2) during the five-year period from 2013 to 2017. The note analyzes investment commitments at the time of financial closure in energy, transport, water, and information and communication technologies (ICT) backbone projects serving the public in IDA countries.

Tokelau Millennium Development Report 2012

Executive summary - The Tokelau Government has been very vigilant in looking after its people. Tokelau people are very fortunate to have free access to basic services such as education and health. There are no extreme cases of poverty identified. The Health Programmes that have and are currently being implemented have resulted in Tokelau being free of major communicable diseases such as HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Dengue Fever.

Urban Energy in Fiji - A survey of Suva's household, industrial, and commercial sectors (1987)

This study was undertaken to analyze the use of energy in the household, industrial, and commercial sectors of urban Suva. It involved surveys of 1011 electrified households, 301 nonelectrified households, 76 industrial establishments, 77 commercial concerns, and 10 large office buildings. The surveys included questionnaire-based interviews, examination of premises, and the study of the records of consumption maintained by users and suppliers of energy.

Rural Energy in Fiji - A survey of domestic rural energy use and potential (1981)

A report to the Fiji Government with financial assistance from the International Development Research Centre. The views expressed in this publication are those of the author and do not necessarily represent the views of IDRC.

The project's aims were to survey current energy use and needs in selected rural areas of Fiji and to evaluate alternative sources of energy supply. In particular, an assessment was to be made of the advisability of expanding the use of biogas and the possibility of improving conditions of domestic cooking, notably through conservation.

Nauru 2015 Household Electrical Appliances, Lights, and End-use Survey

A household electrical appliances, lights, and end-use survey was undertaken in Nauru in June/July 2015. In total 286 households were surveyed, which constitutes 17% of all households in Nauru.Captured in report are some of the findings as well as a few observations.

Pacific Regional Energy Ministers Resolution 2014

The combined plenary Energy and Transport officials meeting was co-hosted by the government of Fiji and the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) and was held on 31st March 2014 and 1st April 2014 at the Novotel Hotel in Nadi, Fiji.

Energy and Poverty in the Pacific Island Countries: Challenges and the Way Forward

This report was prepared by the UNDP. The report highlights that access to affordable and sustainable sources of energy has strong linkages with the reduction of poverty/hardship, i.e. if poverty/hardship reduction is an objective, then the provision of energy is an essential prerequisite. In the PICs, where poverty/hardship is often viewed as the lack of access to basic services, opportunities and adequate resources, the case for energy provisioning and access is particularly strong. Provision of essential social services such as health and primary education require energy services.
