The Pacific Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (PCREEE) Office was privileged to have received SPC senior officials from Suva over the week. The Deputy Director Geoscience Georesources and Energy, Mr. Akuila Tawake together with Ms. Raksha Ben, Project Finance Officer at the SPC were here to attend the Fourth Annual Pacific Geospatial and Surveying Council (PGSC) Meeting and launch of the PGSC Strategy.
The trip was also an opportune time to carry out an induction training to PCREEE staff in Tonga on SPC policies particularly those pertaining to financial requirements and procurement in the organizsation. Despite the adverse weather conditions brought about by the recent Cyclone Keni in the Kingdom, it was unable to deter the enthusiastic participants and the training was accomplished over the two day period. Mr. Sione Misi, in noting the importance of the training stated that it should have been the first training for the new PCREEE Office and requested refresher follow ups when changes in policies do take place at SPC.
Mr. Tawake also met with important stakeholders in the energy sector in the country including the Department of Energy, Tonga Power Limited and a member of the Electricity Commission during the trip discussing the Tonga Energy Roadmap and its current status and options to achieve its targets therein.
The team returned to Suva on 13 April 2018.
