PEC Fund to boost socio- economic and livelihood of remote communities in Tonga

Monday, 27 Nov 2017

The Pacific Environment Community Fund Project (PEC Fund) under the Department of Energy - MEIDECC, is currently installing solar water pumps and solar freezers in Ha’apai and Vava’u.

Aimed to boost socio- economic and livelihood of rural and remote communities on an environmentally sound manner, the work is scheduled to be officially commissioned on December 6, 2017.

The solar freezers are expected to increase business opportunities for women and youth groups and provide extra income for families which will allow them to have frozen meats and ice-blocks on the islands 24/7.

PEC Fund is set to complete on December 20, 2017.
