By Waisea Nasokia, 28 March 2022, Fiji. Electric buses will be used at the proposed suburban bus terminal in Valelevu providing service in the Nasinu area.
Attorney- General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum revealed this during the 42nd Fiji Driving Schools Association annual general meeting at the Man’s Complex, in Nadi on Saturday.
He had also announced this during the revised 2021 – 2022 National Budget on Thursday night.
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said the electronic buses would be used as part of government’s bid to reduce the carbon footprint.
“We need a shuttle system that runs within that area, so it makes it easy for people to travel every 15 to 20 minutes. The whole idea from a climate change perspective, we need to reduce our carbon footprint.”
He added that this plan would add connectivity for people who reside in areas such as Valelevu, Nadera, Nawanawa, right to Davuilevu reducing traffic congestion.
“From an urban planning perspective, those are the kind of things that we are looking at in terms of changing the landscape,” he said.
