PCREEE Workshop On Private Sector Business Development In Renewable Energy And Energy Efficiency: Solomon Islands

Under the Paris Agreement, the Solomon Islands have adopted ambitious targets to cut down on its fossil fuel use and to utilize and rely more on its abundant renewable energy resources.

Government’s renewable energy and climate change targets offer excellent business opportunities worth millions of dollars for the private sector and the local business community. 

The Pacific Community’s - Pacific Centre for Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency (SPC-PCREEE) together with the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce (CC), the Ministry of Mines, Energy and Rural Electrification (MERE) and the Department of Climate Change conducted  a training workshop on Private Sector Businesses Development in the field of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in Honiara on the 1st – 3rd of May 2018. The workshop, among other things, focused on supporting the private sector, groups and individuals who would benefit from the fast growing business opportunities in the areas of renewable energy and energy efficiency.

Objectives of the workshop:

  1. Promote entrepreneurship and private sector investment and job creation in sustainable energy.
  2. Enhancing opportunities for private sector collaboration, and
  3. Raising the awareness about the business opportunities in the Solomon Islands energy sector.
